Hello friends!
I am so excited to finally announce a project I’ve been working on these last few months! After many long nights, legal discussions, brainstorming sessions, and countless coffee shop meetings, the time has come to unleash this latest project into the world. And so, without further ado, with great excitement (and some degree of nervousness) I am inviting you to join me on my latest endeavor: Trivium Magazine - a brand new quarterly Catholic print magazine!
Over the years, a few friends and I have discussed starting a magazine, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that our dream slowly began to take shape and come into fruition. And now I can hardly believe that here I am, announcing the launch of what has seemed at times just a crazy dream of ours.
Though I have written at length about liberating myself from technology, have no fear! Trivium Magazine is not a replacement for my Substack presence here at The Beauty of Simple Things. I will continue writing here; however, I will also be publishing some of my writing exclusively in Trivium.
But what is Trivium Magazine all about? With so many wonderful Catholic websites, blogs, and podcasts available today, what does Trivium Magazine have to offer? And more importantly, in a world where endless content is available at your fingertips, why should you subscribe to a print magazine?
Here at Trivium, we strive to “Reclaim Truth at the Crossroads of Modern Life.” With a reverence for those who have come before us, our goal is to grow in faith, hope, love, and ultimately in holiness even while we live in a world that does all it can to destroy these goals. While our struggles as Catholics in this day and age sometimes feel hopeless, we can find both comfort and peace in knowing that we have been planted in this moment, here at the crossroads between the past and the future.
Yearning for Heaven, we find that only by understanding our roots as God’s children are we able to flourish in the time we have been born into. At the crossroads of history and modernity, we must hold fast to the truth that we have been wondrously created in God’s image and likeness: body, mind and soul.
As we ponder our beginnings, it seems only fitting to start Issue 1 of Trivium in a garden of sorts. We are launching in the height of Summer, at the beginning of July, when all the world is green and alive, and God’s Grandeur is on full display. And so, as we discussed potential themes for the first issue, it seemed only fitting that we choose nurturing for this inaugural issue.
As I wrote in the very first Letter from the Editor, “The act of nurturing can only begin when there is something to nurture. It presupposes the existence of soil, seeds, and garden. But nurturing is not limited to the care of vegetables and flowers.” It is not enough to simply recall the truth of who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going. We must plant strong gardens of virtue and holiness within our lives, nurturing them with hope and joy.
It is our sincerest hope that in some small way Trivium might help to nurture the garden of your community, your home, and most importantly, your soul. Since we’re all traveling along the winding path of life on a journey to Heaven, let’s meet at the crossroads and journey together.
Here’s to a thriving garden of virtue, fields of community, and a harvest of joy in our Heavenly home.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Trivium Magazine about?
Trivium Magazine is a quarterly Catholic magazine with the goal of “Reclaiming Truth at the Crossroads of Modern Life.” There can be no question that today’s culture is plagued with a strong identity crisis. The perennial question of who we are is more fraught with confusion than ever before. Yet as Catholics, we know that ultimately our identity is that we have been wonderfully made in God’s image and likeness: body, mind, and soul.
What does Trivium Mean?
Trivium means crossroads: three (tri-) roads/ways (via). Here at the crossroads, amid the noise of the modern world, we strive to reclaim the truth of being made in God’s image and likeness: body, mind, and soul. Additionally, from Trivium came the adjective trivialis, meaning “found everywhere, commonplace.” As we stumble down the paths of life, we gather bits and pieces of information and wisdom, learning with delight that the struggles and joys we encounter are not new to us, but were also experienced in generations past. Though the modern world has its own unique set of challenges, we find that the paths to Heaven are lined with common things.
How often will issues be released?
