If you haven’t read Josef Pieper’s “Leisure” yet, this piece tells me you absolutely should. My half-memory won’t be as eloquent as his actual words, but if I remember correctly he argues that what we often call “wastefulness” in this context is actually an act of engaging in the sort of celebration of life and abundance that leisure is all about.
